GIRLS HS ELITE LEAGUE
Fall developmental league where the top girl’s hockey players
in the upper Midwest
can play and practice with elite players of similar ability.
Run by and modeled after the Upper Midwest HS Elite Hockey League, a
Non-profit 501c3 organization that is entering its 8th
season with elite HS Boys.

Mission / Vision:
Competition – Development - Exposure Our mission is to provide a centralized program that brings
all the top players together to compete and develop at a pace beyond
their own comfort zones - in an environment that offers positive
role model coaching and exposure to college scouts – with a schedule
that makes it possible for players to continue participation in fall
sports.
Coaches:
- 3 coaches per team
= 1 head + 2 assistants
- Six of the leagues nine coaches are Minnesota Whitecaps
Players, including Winny Brodt, and Jenny
Potter. USA Olympic Players will also play a role as part-time
coaches/mentors.
Whitecaps & Olympic players will suit up in full gear during practices to bring the HS girls to a faster pace.
Total number of players in the league:
- 18 skaters and 2 goalies per team, for a total of 54 skaters and 6 goalies.
- League Alternates - 6 skaters and 2 goalies – available to substitute on any of the three teams.
Eligible Players:
- High School
Seniors, Juniors, or Sophomores in the 08/09 school year. 9th
graders may be considered on a case by case basis.
Player Identification and Selection:
- UMHSEL has a scouting team that watches and rates the top players during the regular season. The scouting team works closely with Minnesota Hockey in the Advanced 17, 16, and 15 NDP tryout process, and with the Minnesota Girls High School Coaches Association to ensure that all prospective players are identified.
- 30 skaters + 3 goalies will receive an automatic invite into the league without a tryout. Remaining 24 skaters + 3 goalies will be selected at a tryout from a pool of 60 skaters and 8 goalies.
- Alternates will also be selected at the tryout.
Player Invitation – Players will be notified by UMHSEL if they are invited to tryout &/or participate
- Automatic Invite Into UMHSEL without at tryout will be awarded in one of the following ways:
- UMHSEL scouting group agrees that the player has demonstrated a high enough level of ability that a tryout is not necessary
- 1990 birth year players – last year’s 2007 Minnesota Adv 17 NDP team
- 1991 birth year players – 2008 Minnesota Adv 17 NDP players
- 1992 birth year players - 2008 Minnesota Adv 16 NDP players that will be Juniors in the 08/09 school year
Automatic Invite Into UMHSEL without at tryout will be awarded in one of the following ways:
- UMHSEL scouting group agrees that the player has demonstrated a high enough level of ability for an invite to tryout
Schedule:

- The league will run four consecutive weekends from October 4 through October 26
- The league will send one All-Star team to participate in the
Bauer NIT at Shattuck Oct. 31 - Nov. 2
- Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine is the venue for all practices.
- One practice* per week on Wednesday evenings for four consecutive weeks
*West Metro & East Metro teams will practice on 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22
